Abidjan, May 25, 2022 (AIP) - The commitments of the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d'Ivoire (CSRS) to communities in various fields have greatly contributed to the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources, said its Director General, Pr Inza Koné.

During a panel discussion organized on the sidelines of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP15), Prof. Inza Koné reviewed the achievements and expertise of his center in research and action research in partnership in the areas of conservation, food security and health in relation to climate change, reports a note transmitted to AIP.

"At the level of conservation, the recent establishment of the Tanoé-Ehy Swamp Forest (about 11,000 ha) as a voluntary nature reserve illustrates the success of empowering rural communities. He said that in the field of food security, multi-stakeholder innovation platforms have promoted paradigm shifts, in the farming community, at all stages of value chains in several sectors for sustainability.

Following him, Prof. Karim Ouattara, a CSRS researcher, Dr. Didier Mbenguié, a CIRAD researcher, Dr. Yapi Richard and Prof. Ettien Jean-Baptiste, also associate researchers at CSRS, made presentations on community conservation of animal and plant biodiversity, innovations in healthy seed production and sustainable soil fertility management, health in relation to climate change and innovations in healthy seed production and sustainable soil fertility management.
