More efficient search by good communication: The CSRS strengthens African researchers from East and West capacity

The Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d'Ivoire (CSRS) in collaboration with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) and the financial support of the Swiss Commission for Research Partnerships with Developing Countries (KFPE) and Afrique one-ASPIRE, organized from 26 to 30 September 2016 in Grand-Bassam (Côte d’Ivoire), a Summer School on " Communicating science to specific target-audiences." They were about twenty researchers from Tanzania, Ghana, Gabon, Guinea Conakry, Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire to strengthen their communication capacity. Different training modules presented concerned the development of a communication plan, writing a Policy brief, the use of social networks, scientific writing and popularization, carrying posters and interviews media and VIPs. The Trainers, Dr Christian Heuss, Communications and Public Relations Officer at Swiss TPH, Prof. Bassirou Bonfoh, Managing Director of CSRS and Afrique One-ASPIRE, and also several researchers and employees of CSRS were able to share with the participants their experiences in communication of science to specific targets (scientifics and non-scientifics). In their presentations, they were unanimous on the importance of a precise definition of the target audience communications activities and developing a key message in all communication activity. In accordance with the strategic directions of the CSRS, remember that this training is part of the capacity building project launched in 2015 by, a World Leader in online communication of science. The CSRS will continue building capacity on scientific communication issues in the sub regions west Africa and Switzerland. It also remains open to all national and international solicitations of institutions wishing to benefit from this module to its "Learning Package".
