Governance: Prof. Bassirou Bonfoh, Director General of CSRS, presents the challenges of his institution to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Côte d'Ivoire

It was during an information and working session held on Tuesday, May 9th, 2017, with Professor Bakayoko Ly Ramata, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Côte d'Ivoire, Professor Bassirou Bonfoh, Director General of the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d’Ivoire (CSRS), reviewed the main achievements of his institution and the challenges that lie ahead. First, the recruitment of the next Director General of the CSRS. The teacher. To this end, Prof. Bonfoh forwarded to the Minister the file on the successor recruitment strategy and the transition plan validated by the CSRS Board of Directors.

In addition, he highlighted (i) the upcoming CSRS Retreat to design the next CSRS 2019-2023 Strategic Plan; (ii) The opportunities for research funding in Africa; (iii) Côte d'Ivoire's contribution to the operation of the CSRS; (iv) The identification of the Cote d'Ivoire's statutory member on the CSRS Board of Directors; (V) the problems of the supervision of students under the LMD; and (vi) The recent collaborations between the CSRS and the Institut Pasteur of Côte d'Ivoire, the West African Virus Epidemiology (WAVE) Program. Furthermore, he congratulated the Minister on his courage and commitment to the quest for performance and the quality of the academic and scientific system in Côte d'Ivoire.

Professor Bakayoko paid tribute to the Director General of CSRS for his contribution to the promotion of Ivorian and African research, especially through the Afrique One-ASPIRE Program, which has just recruited 45 African researchers for 2017-2021 (Master, PhD, PostDoc ) Including 10 Ivorians. The Minister also confirmed his willingness to co-chair the International Congress of the African Primatological Society (which will take place in Bingerville, Cote d’Ivoire from july 24 to july 27, 2017) and to be awarded the CSRS-Eremitage Award 2017 on the sidelines of this conference.

Arriving at CSRS in July 2007 and appointed Director of the Environment and Health Department in January 2008, Prof. Bonfoh became the Director General of CSRS a year later. On 30th June 2018, he will hand over to his successor after three consecutive terms as head of this prestigious institution.
