Board of directors of the CSRS: preparing to pass the torch

The second annual meeting of the Board of directors (BD) of the CSRS was held on the 4th and 5th of December 2017 at the main CSRS site located in Adiopodoumé, Km 17, Abidjan. In addition to the standard themes traditionally discussed, namely the evaluation of the annual report 2017 for the scientific questions and the validation of the budget of the upcoming year (2018), this session was highly anticipated insofar as it were to assess the choice of the future Director General of the CSRS. After nine years under the direction of Prof Bassirou Bonfoh, who has received many prices and distinctions for the CSRS and has implemented multiple innovative research projects, the BD of the CSRS launched an international call for the recruitment of a new Director General on the 15th of October 2017. The last BD session mainly consisted in interviewing and evaluating the four short-listed candidates. Chaired by Prof Thiam Assane, representing Prof Ly Ramata, President of BD of the CSRS and with the presence of Prof Marcel Tanner, President of the Swiss Academy of Biology (SCNAT), the council reviewed the preselected candidates. The evaluation proceeded in two stages starting with the presentation of research projects by the candidates in front of the BD members and the employees and researchers of the CSRS. The second phase consisted in an interview behind closed doors between BD and the candidates. After two days of intense work, BD of the CSRS should officially communicate by the end of December 2017, the name of the new Director General of the CSRS for the period from 2018 to 2020
