The first Primatologist of Ivory Coast, Prof. Inza Koné takes the reins of CSRS

Professor Inza Koné officially took the reins of the CSRS on the 5th July 2018 after a most harmonious transition, during the official award ceremony held on the site of the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d’Ivoire located in Adiopodoumé KM17. The appointment of Prof. Inza Koné is the culmination of a process international open selection that has taken place over more than a year. 


The choice of Prof. Inza Koné, was unanimously taken by the Board of Directors of the CSRS meeting on the 5th of December 2017. From that date, a transition process between the outgoing Director and his successor was set up. Already well familiar with the realities and challenges of the CSRS where he has already spent 22 years, and held various positions of responsibility under three different Directorates, Prof. Inza Koné has benefited since his appointment from the mentoring of his predecessor, Prof. Bassirou BONFOH.

Indeed, the Prof. Bassirou BONFOH, Director General of CSRS from 2009 to 2018, worked on a smooth and transparent transition for his successor through his increased involvement in the administrative and scientific life of the institution.

A most memorable awarding ceremony, featured the presence of Dr. Olivier Girardin, Director of the Inter Jurassic Rural Foundation, former Director of the CSRS, Prof. Jacob Zinsstag, former Director of CSRS, Prof. Marcel Tanner, former Director of the Swiss TPH and current President of the Academy of Natural Sciences (SCNAT) and Prof. Emmanuel Frossard, President of the CSRS Foundation in Switzerland. At the national level, several presidents of public and private Universities, directors of institutes and research centers, directors of UFR, the traditional chiefdom of Adiopodoumé, presidents of NGOs, the Executive Secretary of PASRES (Strategic Support Program for Scientific Research), the President of ASCAD (Academy of Sciences, Cultures of Arts and Diasporas) were present. In short, a rich and varied public was present at this ceremony. 


The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS) and the Ministry of Supervision of the CSRS were strongly represented. The Minister was represented by his Director of Cabinet Prof. Thiam Assane who, a few hours earlier, chaired the first regular session 2018 of the CSRS Board of Directors.  


Speaking at the closing ceremony, Prof. Thiam Assane, expressed all the satisfaction of the MESRS to see, after 67 years of existence in Côte d'Ivoire of CSRS, an Ivorian in the person of Prof. Inza Koné, at the head of this prestigious institution. He expressed all the support of the MESRS to the new Directorate.
