African Primatological Society: The Director of Research and Development of the CSRS elected Chairman with more than 80% of the votes

With 84 votes from a total of 103 voters, Prof. Inza Koné, Director of Research and Development at the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d’Ivoire (CSRS), is the first President of the African Primatological Society (APS). The election took place in the afternoon of Wednesday, July 26, 2017, during the inaugural APS congress held in Bingerville, Côte d'Ivoire, July 24-26, 2017. More than 150 primatologists from Africa and around the world took part in this congress, whose aim was to focus on the baptismal font of APS in order to create a critical mass of African primatologists and to create a synergy of actions in the conservation of primates in general and African primates in particular. In his first speech as Chaiman of APS, Prof. Inza Koné emphasized the challenges facing the scholarly society he now leads. These include the pooling of skills, the training of young researchers and the awareness of policies. The CSRS co-organizer of the event through its Director General, Prof. Bassirou Bonfoh, has pledged to support the APS in contributing to the shift "from the center of gravity of primatology in Africa" ??and to the "mobilization of resources" needed.
