Abidjan, 16 June 2023 (AIP)- On Wednesday 14 June 2023, Fofana Brihima, technical adviser to the Ministry of Sanitation and Hygiene, launched the project to build capacity in faecal sludge management and inclusive urban sanitation in Côte d'Ivoire (Isc-Hub), at the new town hall in the commune of Koumassi.

Mr Fofana, while praising the parties involved in the implementation of the programme since its evaluation, expressed the recognition of the supervisory authority for this initiative in response to the development of the towns and communes of Côte d'Ivoire.

According to Pr Dongo Kouassi, associate at the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques (CSRS) and project leader, this two-year training programme for sanitation network professionals aims to promote an inclusive, city-wide approach known as CWIS. It is being held in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire.

At the end of the project, the aim will be to set up a platform for sharing experience, data and expertise between the countries involved in this programme, which began with a needs assessment period from November 2020 to November 2022. The second practical phase will be held from 2022 to 2024, to provide satisfaction and responses to the needs identified.

The municipality of Koumassi was chosen for this pilot project, funded by the Bill and Melina Gates Foundation, because it has a sewage sludge treatment plant and is home to the national association of sewage emptiers, it has been revealed.
