CSRS welcomes Mrs Elisabeth Baume-Schneider

On Tuesday July 1, 2025, the Swiss Federal Councillor for Culture and Health, Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, paid an official visit to the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d'Ivoire (CSRS), based in Adiopodoumé (km 17), to find out about current projects, particularly those relating to the “One Health” approach.

The delegation was welcomed by CSRS Director General Pr Inza Koné, in the presence of members of the Management Committee, the Scientific Advisory Board and the Swiss Ambassador to Côte d'Ivoire, Dominique Favre.

The delegation visited several of the center's facilities, including molecular biology and microbiology laboratories and the insectarium. Mrs. Baume-Schneider also met with researchers involved in health issues, notably malaria, meningitis and schistosomiasis.

During her visit, the Swiss Minister praised the scientific cooperation between the two countries, and stressed the importance of research in meeting global health challenges.

“The CSRS implements in Côte d'Ivoire the criteria of excellence and rigor that underpin scientific research in Switzerland”, she declared, noting the volume and quality of publications from the center.

CSRS Director General Pr Inza Koné expressed his gratitude for the visit, which he described as a mark of attention to scientific research in Côte d'Ivoire. He reaffirmed the center's commitment to producing quality research in the service of sustainable development.

Created in 1951 by the Basel Tropical Institute (Swiss TPH), the CSRS is an interdisciplinary research institution. Since 2007, it has been under the dual supervision of the Ivorian and Swiss ministries in charge of scientific research, within the framework of a bilateral agreement.
