On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, the CSRS and its partners at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) organized a workshop at the Yopougon Central City Hall, located in Selmer, to present the results of the household survey conducted as part of the YopouLab project. The meeting brought together members of the project’s research team, representatives of municipal authorities, and community leaders.

Conducted among 1,495 households between April and May 2026 in the Yopougon Millionnaire, Millionnaire Extension, and Wassakara areas, this study aimed to better understand the links between the urban living environment, health, well-being, and access to healthcare for local residents. It also assessed residents’ willingness to join a future health and demographic follow-up cohort, in line with the vision of establishing a Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) in Yopougon, similar to the one already in place in Taabo.

The project presentation and the sharing of results were led jointly by Dr. Salimata BERTE Epse BERTHE (CSRS), Dr. Etienne KOUAKOU (CSRS), and Dr. Vitor PESSOA COLOMBO (Swiss TPH, online), the researchers responsible for coordinating the YopouLab project. Discussions and interactions between the researchers and participants provided an opportunity to share the study’s key findings, gather feedback and suggestions from participants, and strengthen the dialogue among researchers, policymakers, and local communities. Municipal authorities expressed particular interest in this project and intend to incorporate the results into their next three-year plan for the well-being of their residents.

This initiative is part of the YopouLab project’s goal to transform scientific data into knowledge that can inform public policy for the creation of healthier and more livable cities, thereby promoting the well-being of the population.
