Songon, July 31 (AIP)-

The Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques (CSRS) participates significantly in food security in Côte d'Ivoire, said its Director General Professor Inza Koné. At the closing of the workshop of the Food Security and Nutrition (SAN) research group held Thursday, July 29, 2021, at the CSRS headquarters in Adiopodoumé route de Dabou, Professor Inza Koné stressed that his research center is present in the agricultural field in Côte d'Ivoire focusing mainly on food crops, especially yam, corn and vegetable crops.

"We have contributed to the introduction of improved varieties of maize and cassava in Côte d'Ivoire, and we have disseminated these varieties in the different regions of the country. We are not satisfied with production based on varietal selection, we go to the processing and consumption," said the Director General of CSRS, Professor Inza Kone.

For her part, the head of the research group SAN, Professor Georgette Konan, said that his research group was born under the third strategic plan of the CSRS and established in 2019.

"The objective of our group is to contribute to food and nutrition security in Côte d'Ivoire and sub-Saharan Africa," he added.

The CSRS in Côte d'Ivoire is placed under the dual supervision of the two ministries in charge of scientific research in Côte d'Ivoire, co-signatories of a scientific cooperation agreement between the two countries. In Switzerland, the supervision is ensured by the ''Leading House'' designated by the Secretary of State for Research and Education (SER), in this case the Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss Tropical and Public Health) in Basel whose director is Professor Juerg Utzinger. In Côte d'Ivoire, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is the supervisor.
