Journalists in the molecular biology laboratory

The 2 nd World Conference of French-speaking Science Journalists took place in Abidjan from Tuesday June 10 to Friday June 14, 2025 at the Université Félix Houphouët Boigny de Cocody, under the theme of “One Health”.

In conjunction with this international conference held in Abidjan - Cocody, a delegation of some thirty science journalists from several countries (Switzerland, Canada, Guinea, Cameroon, Benin, Senegal, DRC, France, Togo, etc.) led by Ms Khamis Huma, (Journalist at Radio Télévision Suisse), set foot at the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques in Côte d'Ivoire in the second half of Friday June 14, 2025.

The words of welcome were pronounced by the Director General of the CSRS, Professor Inza Koné, after having given them an enthusiastic welcome in the company of Prof. Cissé Guéladio (Technical Advisor to the DG of the CSRS) and a number of researchers and employees invited for the occasion.

The program for this working visit includes presentations and discussions:

 Presentation of the context of the visit (Colloquium) and of the Network of French-speaking science journalists - Mme Khamis Huma;

  • Institutional presentation of the CSRS - Prof. Inza Koné;
  • Presentation of the He²at Project - Prof. Cissé Guéladio - Co Pi of the He²at Project and Technical Advisor to the CSRS DG;
  • Presentation of epidemiological studies - Dr. Yapi Richard (Entomologist, associate researcher at the CSRS).

Following these presentations, groups were formed for visits to CSRS laboratories (Insectarium, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Parasitology and Medical Entomology).  These visits were guided by Miss Yao Laurence, GLP Project Manager, and Messrs JB Assamoi, Sylvain Akoupo and Sadikou Touré (Laboratory Technicians). Exchanges continued within the laboratories throughout the visit, enabling our guests to discover the institution and how it works, and to delve deeper into the “One Health” approach, which aims to improve global public health by coordinating the efforts of the human health, animal health and environment sectors working together: scientists, researchers, doctors, veterinarians, ecologists, farmers and decision-makers.

The topics addressed during the discussions aroused keen interest and were particularly appreciated by the journalists.
