The Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d'Ivoire (CSRS) received on Thursday, September 02, 2021, the visit of a delegation of the HortSys Research Unit of the Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD), led by the Director, Dr. Fabrice Le BELLEC.

During this meeting, Prof. Inza Koné, Director General of CSRS, presented the achievements and development prospects of the Swiss Center in terms of research focused on sustainable development. Several important points were also discussed, including the partnership between the UR HortSys of CIRAD, specialized in innovative horticultural systems based on agroecology and the CSRS, on the assessment of activities carried out under the MARIGO project, a large-scale project for the development of the agroecological market gardening sector in the peri-urban area of Côte d'Ivoire, which in the long term should contribute effectively to a sustainable and productive transformation of this sector.

This program is part of the collaboration between CIRAD and the Food Security and Nutrition Group (SAN) on a series of projects, including the FABA project, which aims to intensify the cultivation of plantains in an ecological manner through training and support for stakeholders in the sector.

Dr. Le BELLEC, who is on a mission to Côte d'Ivoire for a few days, and Dr. Thibaud MARTIN, Director of the UR HortSys of CIRAD, Côte d'Ivoire section, who came to announce his departure, welcomed the collaboration between the two institutions and wished for a greater mutualization of exchanges and knowledge at the research level.

CIRAD is the French agricultural research and international cooperation organization for the sustainable development of tropical and Mediterranean regions.
