On Thursday, March 26, 2026, in Adiopodoumé, in the municipality of Yopougon, the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques in Côte d’Ivoire officially kicked off the celebrations marking its 75th anniversary. A high-level ceremony was attended by the Vice President of the Swiss Confederation, Ignazio Cassis; the Ivorian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Adama Diawara; and the mayor of Yopougon, Adama Bictogo.

In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, the Director General of the Swiss Center for Scientific Research, Prof. Inza Koné, recalled the institution’s central role since its founding. “It is with deep emotion and immense honor that I speak today… Since its creation, the CSRS has embodied a strong ambition: to make scientific research a lever for understanding, innovation, and transformation in the service of African societies,” he stated.

For 75 years, the CSRS has established itself as a bridge between Switzerland and Côte d’Ivoire, as well as between science and social realities. Biodiversity, food security, global health, and institutional governance: these are just some of the areas in which the institution has provided concrete solutions. “Our institution has successfully built solid bridges between science and the needs of the people,” emphasized Inza Koné, who also praised the consistent support of the Ivorian authorities.

Ignazio Cassis’s presence was seen as a powerful symbol of the vitality of bilateral cooperation. “It is a strong signal of Switzerland’s commitment to collaborative, equitable, and forward-looking research,” emphasized the Director General, while paying tribute to the communities of Adiopodoumé for their hospitality.

Beyond taking stock of the past, this celebration is focused on the future. Faced with major challenges such as climate change, food security, and rapid urbanization, the CSRS aims to increase its impact. “Science alone is not enough. It must be integrated with funding and innovation mechanisms,” emphasized Inza Koné, highlighting partnerships with international groups and local companies.

The highlight of this anniversary year will be an international symposium scheduled for September 2026 on the theme “Scientific Research and Public-Private Partnerships: Catalysts for Sustainable Development and Well-being in Sub-Saharan Africa.”

“Celebrating 75 years isn’t just about looking back; it’s above all about looking ahead with ambition,” concluded the CSRS Director General, calling for even more daring and impactful decades to come.
