The day of October 17, 2022 at the CSRS was PINK in sensitization and screening thanks to the good will of the Management Committee and the collaboration of the gender unit of the said institution.

This day began with a speech by the first responsible of the institution, Prof. Inza KONE, who had at his side the CFO, Mrs. Khady SALL.

For the DG, this initiative of the gender cell is to be welcomed and fits perfectly into the strategy of corporate social responsibility (CSR), hence its sustainability. He therefore congratulated the unit for this mobilization and encouraged the women of the CSRS to be screened.

Indeed, screening at least twice a year, practicing exclusive breastfeeding at delivery, doing self-care every month precisely 10 days after menstruation, reducing alcohol and tobacco consumption, practicing regular sports activities are among other lifestyle habits that every woman should have according to the speaker of the day, Dr. Georgina ANGOA, Epidemiologist and Clinical and Epidemiological Research Associate at CSRS.

For the series of questions and answers, Dr. Koffi Oupo Marcelle and Dr. Zo N'Guessan Sandrine, guests of the day and both clinical doctors, enlightened the guests. They especially invited them at the end of this conference, to be megaphones and ambassadors in this fight against cancer by banishing all prejudices around this disease that hinder awareness, the first remedy to cancer.

"Cancer kills and this day was initiated in order to participate in the fight against cancer in the research environment, to raise awareness on the dangers of cancer among men and women of the CSRS, to screen, but also to appreciate the gestures of self-palpation. Because taking into account a cancer detected earlier can reduce deaths" said Dr. Estelle KABRAN, Head of the Gender Unit of the CSRS.

Then, still in the company of the clinicians, there were breast cancer screening sessions where women and men from the CSRS were screened and learned how to perform breast self-examination. It was a day full of learning!

In Côte d'Ivoire, more than 1000 women die of breast cancer every year (WHO).

Pink October originated from a campaign launched by the American Cancer Society and Imperial Chemical Industry in the United States in 1985. Their objective was to promote mammography and awareness of breast cancer screening.
